Cabin-bag limits for major UAE airlines
Cabin allowance depends on airline, fare, route and class. Check the operating airline and your booking before every trip.

The short answer
The four airlines compared here publish different cabin-bag dimensions. A soft duffle still has to fit within every stated dimension when packed; rotating a bag does not fix a side that remains larger than the airline’s smallest limit. Weight and number-of-piece rules also apply.
Published economy cabin-bag limits
| Airline | Published maximum dimensions | Published weight | Official source |
|---|---|---|---|
| Emirates | 55 × 38 × 22 cm | 7 kg | Cabin baggage rules |
| Etihad | 56 × 36 × 23 cm | 7 kg | Baggage FAQ |
| flydubai | 55 × 38 × 20 cm | 7 kg | Hand baggage policy |
| Air Arabia | 55 × 40 × 20 cm | 7 kg cabin bag, plus a personal-item allowance described by the airline | Cabin baggage FAQ |
These are published general economy limits observed on the linked official pages on 20 September 2026. Exceptions can apply by route, fare, partner airline, departure country or aircraft. The airline and ticket remain authoritative.
Does the ARATE Voyager meet those limits?
No guarantee can be made from the current catalogue dimensions. The Voyager Travel Duffle is listed at 53 × 27 × 28 cm. Its two smaller sides are 27 and 28 cm, which exceed the smallest published dimension in each comparison above: 22 cm on Emirates, 23 cm on Etihad and 20 cm on flydubai and Air Arabia.
Soft-sided compression may change a packed measurement, but ARATE has not completed a physical packed-bag test. The product is therefore described as a travel duffle, without a blanket cabin-friendly claim.
How to check a soft travel bag
- Pack the bag as you expect to travel, including the laptop, shoes and outer pockets.
- Measure the widest points, including handles, feet and filled pockets where the airline includes them.
- Weigh the complete packed bag, not the empty bag. The Voyager’s 1.6–2.1 kg figure is a catalogue target, not a measured final-sample weight.
- Check your ticket and the operating airline’s current page immediately before departure.
Personal items are a separate question
Some airlines publish a separate allowance for a small laptop bag, handbag or satchel, while others include one piece only for certain fares. Do not assume a work bag is automatically additional to the main cabin bag. Compare the specific personal-item dimensions and piece count on your booking.
For work-bag sizing, use the laptop bag fit guide. For product-format differences, compare the Laptop Tote, Executive Laptop Bag and Executive Briefcase.
Why the smallest side matters
To compare orientation fairly, sort each set of three dimensions from largest to smallest. Voyager’s catalogue becomes 53 × 28 × 27 cm. Even in this favourable orientation, its 27 cm side is larger than the smallest allowance in the table. Simply turning it around does not change those three lengths.
Build a packed-weight budget
These are illustrative weights, not measured ARATE or device specifications. Substitute your own readings and weigh the complete bag on one scale. Being under a weight limit does not cancel a size or piece-count restriction.
Keep a pre-flight record
Save the operating airline’s allowance for your booking, note when you checked it, and measure the fully packed bag. If your journey involves another operating carrier, check its rules as well. A product described as a travel bag is not automatically approved cabin baggage.

A FEW MORE ANSWERS
Frequently asked questions
Can I rotate a bag to meet an airline’s size limit?
Compare dimensions in the most favourable orientation, but every side must still fit. If the bag’s shortest side is larger than the allowance’s shortest side, rotation alone cannot solve that mismatch.
Does the ARATE Voyager meet the limits in this guide?
Its catalogue dimensions are 53 × 27 × 28 cm. The smallest side is larger than the smallest side in each listed allowance. There is no verified packed-bag test establishing compliance; do not assume acceptance.
Is a laptop bag always an extra personal item?
No. Permitted pieces and personal-item rules depend on your airline, fare and booking. Check whether a laptop bag is additional or must fit within the main allowance.
Should I weigh my bag empty or packed?
Weigh the complete packed bag, including devices, accessories and filled outer pockets. An empty catalogue weight is not your travel weight.
